Use the desktop application to a few databases and library catalogs, and then select citations from the search results. Once you fill in the citation information, it is saved to your EndNote Basic account.įinally, you can save citations to EndNote by using the search feature within the desktop application. You will generally need to fill in the citation information yourself, as the extension can be unreliable at automatically filling in citation information. If you use only EndNote Basic (and not the full version), the Firefox extension is the only way you can capture citations. Then you will need to install the EndNote program. Select the correct EndNote version for your computer Download and save the application file-this procedure may vary depending on the browser you use. It may be slightly different in each database, but the steps and interface will be similar.ĮndNote also has a Firefox browser extension that lets you capture citations from the web. Click on the Find Citation command in the EndNote toolbar to open up a connection to EndNote Basic. Each database has a slightly different interface, and sometimes the option to export a citation to EndNote can be listed under a different term, such as "Save" or "Export." You can export research articles from the web, Microsoft Office, and PSU's research databases. Do not store EndNote libraries in iCloud or any other cloud-syncing folder, and do not store EndNote libraries in the Documents folder if you have selected the option to synchronize documents in iCloud. If you choose to store your documents in iCloud, we suggest creating a separate folder in your Home folder and saving your EndNote libraries there. EndNote libraries stored in iCloud, even when stored on both the hard drive and online, are subject to corruption over time.
